A Rare Collection of Distinct Traditional Havyaka Melodies

A rare collection Havyaka Sampradaya Songs by Geeta Kattinakere given to Havyaka Association of Americas. With more than 50 different Dhaati/tunes/melodies sung for various occasions. These are the preserved traditional melodies with less influence by Hindustani/Karnatali or film and Bhaavageethe. It is said these melodies have some rare Raags preserved. Raagas like Mohana, Aarabhi, Durga are sung in simple but rare note combinations (Some more can be found in http://shruti.hejje.com).

Geeta Kattinakere (Known as ಮೂಡುಗೋಡು ಗೀತೆ) is a well known Havyaka traditional singer in Sagara/Soraba region. She learnt traditional tunes starting at the age of 10 primarily from Dodderi Arundhati (ದೊಡ್ಡೇರಿ ಅರುಂದ್ರುತಿ) in oral tradition. Geeta Kattinakere also learnt from HuLegaaru Bhageerati (ಹುಳೇಗಾರು ಭಾಗೀರಥೀ), Mudugodu Lakshmi Kanchi and MadasUru Bhavaani. It is also her wish that our youth will use these to learn and preserve traditional Havyaka melodies (Recorded by Ragu Kattinakere, Markham, Canada, given for use by Havyaka Association of
Americas, North America).
